Choosing an adult to ask for help

Think of an adult who listens, stays calm, and makes you feel safe. If the first one is not right, you can choose another.

Everyday examples

  • A parent, grandparent, or older family member you trust.
  • A teacher, school counselor, nurse, or coach.
  • A friend's parent or a faith leader you know well.

One next step

Pick one person and tell them, 'I need help with something.' You do not have to explain everything at once.

Remember

  • Abuse is never a child's fault.
  • You do not have to collect proof before asking for help.
  • You are not responsible for stopping adult violence.
  • You do not have to physically intervene or protect everyone yourself.
  • You can care about someone and still need protection from them.
