When the first person did not help
If you told someone and they did not help, that does not mean what happened is okay — and it does not mean no one will help. You can tell someone else.
Everyday examples
- They said it was not a big deal, but it still feels bad.
- They got angry or did not believe you.
- Nothing changed after you told them.
One next step
Tell a different trusted adult, or contact a help line. You still deserve help.
Remember
- Abuse is never a child's fault.
- You do not have to collect proof before asking for help.
- You are not responsible for stopping adult violence.
- You do not have to physically intervene or protect everyone yourself.
- You can care about someone and still need protection from them.
In immediate danger, call 911 when it is safe to do so. Choosing any button on this site does not dispatch help or file a report.
